q = Kd × P^x, where q is emitter discharge (L/hr), Kd is emitter discharge coefficient, P is operating pressure (kPa or psi), and x is emitter exponent (0 = pressure compensating, 0.5 = turbulent, 1.0 = laminar). For a typical emitter with Kd=1.2 and x=0.5 at 100 kPa: q = 1.2 × 100^0.5 = 12 L/hr. Per ASABE S526.4 standard.

What is emission uniformity (EU) and what value is acceptable?

EU = 100 × (1 - 1.27 × CV / √n) × (q_min / q_avg), where CV is the manufacturer's coefficient of variation, n is emitters per plant, and q_min/q_avg is the min-to-average flow ratio reflecting pressure variation. EU > 90% is excellent; EU 80–90% is good; EU < 75% is poor. Drip systems should achieve EU ≥ 85% per ASABE EP405.1.
