How is a chooser option valued?

Chooser value = C(S, K, T) + P(S, K x exp(-r(T-t)), t), where T is option expiry, t is choice date. At choice date t, the holder chooses call if S_t > K x exp(-r(T-t)), put otherwise.

How does chooser compare to straddle?

Chooser is cheaper than straddle because direction is chosen before expiry (uses one option, not two). Chooser costs roughly half the straddle premium. Best used when direction unclear but large move expected.
