What is the 60-day CGT reporting rule?

From April 2020, UK residents must report and pay CGT on UK residential property disposals within 60 days of completion. Non-UK residents: 60 days regardless of any gain.

What happens if I miss the 60-day deadline?

An automatic £100 penalty applies from day 61. After 6 months: £300 or 5% of tax (whichever higher). Tax-based penalties apply after 12 months.

Does the 60-day rule apply to all property sales?

Only UK residential property is in scope. Commercial property, other assets, and properties where no CGT is due are not subject to the 60-day rule.
