The IHS evaluates BSA involvement, scale severity (0–3), erythema (0–3), skin surface abnormality, and patient-reported quality of life impact. It is validated for ichthyosis vulgaris and lamellar ichthyosis across clinical trial settings.

Are there separate scores for different ichthyosis types?

Yes. The IHS, IIHS (Inherited Ichthyosis Severity Scale), and iSQOL (ichthyosis QoL) are validated for inherited ichthyoses. Acquired ichthyosis may use PASI-adapted tools. Unified scoring is still being validated across subtypes.
