What defines SGA and why does it matter?

SGA is defined as birth weight below the 10th percentile for gestational age. SGA neonates have increased risks of hypoglycemia, hypothermia, polycythemia, and, for severely growth-restricted infants, long-term metabolic and cardiovascular disease.

Which growth curves are most commonly used?

The Fenton 2013 chart and Olsen 2010 charts are widely used. The WHO Multicentre Growth Reference Study charts apply to term infants. Selection depends on institutional protocol and population norms.
