Why correct the reticulocyte count?

Raw reticulocyte percentage is artificially elevated in anemia because it is measured against a smaller total RBC pool. Correction normalizes to a standard hematocrit of 45% to reflect true marrow output.

What CRC value indicates adequate marrow response?

A corrected reticulocyte count >2% suggests the bone marrow is responding appropriately to anemia (e.g., hemolysis, blood loss). CRC <2% with significant anemia indicates inadequate marrow response.

When should I use RPI instead of CRC?

Use RPI when hematocrit is very low (<25%) and polychromasia is present on smear, indicating reticulocytes are being released prematurely. The maturation factor correction in RPI provides more accurate assessment in severe anemia.
