What does DAS28 measure?

DAS28 measures rheumatoid arthritis disease activity using 28-joint tender count, 28-joint swollen count, ESR or CRP, and a 0–100 mm patient global health VAS. Scores below 2.6 indicate clinical remission.

DAS28-ESR vs DAS28-CRP — which is better?

Both are validated. DAS28-CRP tends to give slightly lower scores than DAS28-ESR. The choice depends on what the lab measures; CRP is increasingly preferred as it reflects acute inflammation more rapidly.

What is the treat-to-target DAS28 goal?

International treat-to-target recommendations aim for DAS28 remission (<2.6) or at minimum low disease activity (<3.2) in all RA patients.
