What is the fosphenytoin loading dose expressed in PE?

Loading dose is 15–20 mg phenytoin equivalents (PE) per kg, infused at no faster than 3 mg PE/kg/min (maximum 150 mg PE/min) in children. Phenytoin sodium infusion is limited to 1 mg/kg/min to avoid arrhythmia.

Why is fosphenytoin preferred over phenytoin IV?

Fosphenytoin is water-soluble, causes less cardiac toxicity and tissue necrosis, and can be infused faster than phenytoin. Purple glove syndrome (compartment syndrome) from phenytoin extravasation is avoided with fosphenytoin.
