What seizure types characterize Dravet syndrome?

Dravet syndrome features febrile hemi-clonic and generalized tonic-clonic seizures in the first year of life, followed by emergence of myoclonus, absence seizures, and atypical absences. All seizure types are typically refractory to standard AEDs.

Which treatments are approved for Dravet syndrome?

Fenfluramine and cannabidiol (Epidiolex) are FDA-approved for Dravet syndrome. Stiripentol is approved in the EU in combination with valproate and clobazam. Sodium channel blockers (phenytoin, lamotrigine, carbamazepine) are contraindicated as they worsen seizures.
