What are Lundberg A (plateau) waves and why are they dangerous?

Lundberg A waves are sustained ICP elevations of 50–100mmHg lasting 5–20 minutes. They occur when intracranial compliance is exhausted and represent critical periods of cerebral ischemia. Immediate intervention (hyperventilation, osmotherapy, sedation) is required.

What do Lundberg B and C waves indicate?

B waves are rhythmic oscillations (0.5–2/min) of 20–50mmHg associated with Cheyne-Stokes respiration and impaired compliance — concerning but not immediately dangerous. C waves (4–8/min, <20mmHg) parallel arterial Traube-Hering-Mayer waves and are less clinically significant.
