What EF indicates heart failure?

EF below 40% indicates heart failure with reduced EF (HFrEF). 40-49% is mildly reduced, ≥50% is preserved (HFpEF).

EF is measured by echocardiography, cardiac MRI, nuclear imaging (MUGA), or ventriculography.

Can ejection fraction improve?

Yes, with treatment (ACE inhibitors, beta-blockers, CRT), EF can improve significantly in some patients.
