GAHS >= 9 is associated with 50-60% 28-day mortality without treatment and has 78% sensitivity for identifying steroid-responsive patients. GAHS < 9 generally indicates a better prognosis without steroids.

How does GAHS compare to Maddrey DF?

Both identify patients for corticosteroid therapy. GAHS >= 9 and mDF >= 32 have similar sensitivity (~78-80%). Using both together (Maddrey >= 32 or GAHS >= 9) maximises identification of patients who benefit.
