Normal pulse pressure is 40 mmHg (120/80 = PP of 40). >60 mmHg in older adults suggests arterial stiffness.

What causes wide pulse pressure?

Wide PP is caused by aortic regurgitation, arteriovenous fistula, thyrotoxicosis, severe anemia, or atherosclerosis.

Narrow PP (<25 mmHg) suggests aortic stenosis, cardiac tamponade, heart failure, or hypovolemia.
