What are the three SAPS 3 subscores?

SAPS 3 is divided into three boxes: Box I covers patient characteristics before ICU admission (age, comorbidities, length of pre-ICU hospital stay, use of major therapeutic options); Box II covers the circumstances of ICU admission (admission from, reason, planned/unplanned surgery); Box III covers acute physiological derangements at admission (GCS, bilirubin, creatinine, heart rate, temperature, oxygenation, WBC, systolic BP).

Are there region-specific SAPS 3 equations?

Yes. SAPS 3 provides seven region-specific logistic regression equations (Australasia, Central/South America, Central/Western Europe, Eastern Europe, North America, Southern Europe/Mediterranean, and the UK) to improve local calibration. Using the appropriate regional equation produces better-calibrated mortality predictions than the global equation alone.
