The Wilks score is a coefficient used in powerlifting to compare lifters of different body weights. It is calculated by multiplying the total lifted by a coefficient derived from the athlete’s body weight.

How is the Wilks coefficient calculated?

The coefficient uses a 5th-degree polynomial in body weight with separate coefficients for male and female athletes, developed by Robert Wilks of Powerlifting Australia.

Has Wilks been replaced by newer formulas?

IPF replaced Wilks with the IPF GL formula in 2019 for official competitions, but Wilks remains widely used in local meets and for historical comparisons.
